hooligansurvival: Welcome to the damn Hooligan Survival Guide, created and structured and brought to you by the most honest 42 girls of the 21st century. Over a year ago in 2012, Emily created a small Facebook group entitled, “Hooligan Blogging Support N’ Shit,” adding girls she knew that would love the idea of having a go-to place where they didn’t feel uncomfortable or un-welcome; a place where they wouldn’t have to worry about impressing others or being made fun of, a place that was not filled with standards or “what-if’s,” and before we all knew it, more girls were being added to the group every day, week, month; it was our friends, our friends’ friends, your neighbor, the girl down the street, our favorite quirky bloggers - we were all together now, pouring out our deepest darkest secrets, sharing things we had never shared with anyone else before, relating in such a deep way that gave us all a connection we would have never expected to happen. It took us over a year to realize how immensely we all felt for each other, over a year, we had become a family, unbreakable, flawed, and overwhelmingly strong even in our darkest of moments because we had each other. We are writers, we are bloggers, we are optimists, we are pessimists, we are artists, we are fascinated by music, fashion, adventure, creativity, love, sex, heart ache. We are inspired by all things, we are inspired by nothing at all, we are therapists, entrepreneurs, we are deeply in love with the world, and as poet Andrea Gibson once said, we suppose we love this life, in spite of our clenched fists. We are hooligans. We are from Wisconsin, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, California, Texas, Canada, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, Nevada, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, China, and we are hoping to extend our family by sharing and giving and helping everyone who needs it just like we did for each other. So welcome. Take a seat. Fasten your seatbelt. You are not alone. We are here, and we are here to stay. Fuck the people who left you behind, fuck anyone who said you couldn’t do something you were passionate about or loved enough that you couldn’t put all of yourself into it, fuck anyone who said you weren’t pretty enough or skinny enough or cool enough or smart enough, it’s about time that you had a break. So take a deep breath and enjoy the ride, and our greatest hope is that you will take everything we have to give to you and make it your own like you have done for us. This is our thank you. This is our sanctuary. This is our red flag. This is our safe zone. And now it is yours too.
